Memetation

The fundamental transfer of ideology or cultures are memes.  Typical internet memes use a visual and text to transfer culture, idea, or story.   Most memes don’t have a point, and others do really well at making an argument while avoiding logical fallacies.    One of the problems with today ‘s American culture  is that  we are really visual people, and based on appearance , we judge a person in twenty   seconds or less.   We do the same with memes.  We look at for ten seconds and either we get it or people are confused.  Most women would say a creep is an     As a computer scientist, I am use meme to present arguments about trying to understand what makes a creepy person while trying to attempt to avoid logical fallacies.

The first picture meme is a meme  that I made in response to a class mates meme that she made in class.    The whole purpose was not to go to viral but gain some insight on how to become labeled as a creep.   I used pathos for this argument.   The picture use what most people would say looks like a nice person that is forcing himself to wear a fake smile.    It uses some neutral colors.    I never liked this stereotype for my old school.  As a computer scientist, I really do not talk to many people because I know I come with some qualities most people would deem as socially awkward.    Most people at Rose-Hulman are aware of the social awkwardness.   What I hate the most as a black computer scientist is someone looking at me and judging me by appearance and where I am located.   The Rose-Hulman creep stereotype is just about as bad as the Rose-Hulman women stereotype.  The stereotype for women at that school is that all women that go to that school are unattractive.   As a Football player that went to that school, there are beautiful and brilliant women there and there are regular intelligent men there too.   There the creep and ugly stereotype are frowned upon.     It is hard to make friends outside of school when people look at you when are a thug and a creep at the same time.

The  meme  above is a picture of Sméagol from the Lord of the Rings and the other guy is a internet superstar that took over the internet when he got arrested.  I used celebrity and juxtaposition to compare two people.  One of them is fictional character from a famous book. The other is an actual person.   Sméagol was an educated hobbit.   To make a long story short, Sméagol did acts that are considered crimes because he was lead down the path of darkness by the ring.    Sméagol ring and his environment influenced him to do bad acts.  In the case of the man on the right, He also is a criminal.  He was probably influenced by friends, family and his environment to commit crimes which lead to his arrest.  When I was in middle school and high school it was popular to call someone Sméagol, if they were undesirable.   If Sméagol had a Facebook and he messaged you trying to run game and make you his next precious, then you would consider him a creep.  In Retrospect, If the man on the right messaged girls and tried to do the same thing as Sméagol then he would be more successful in his ventures.   Let’s look at reality.  The guy on the right does not have to message women on Facebook because thousands of women that he did not know sent him love letters and money while he was incarcerated

In the  meme above, I used celebrity, pathos, and ethos argues that actions may earn you the title of creep.  I used a picture of The Lonely Island and Nicki Minaj from the video of song “The Creep.”  In the song, they use heavy exaggeration to define a creep by his actions and they also made a dance.  The ethos comes from Nicki Minaj because she is a famous woman that probably has been creep on by thousands.   I think a creep should be judged on their actions and not based on looks.  The emotional appeal is its bad to make friends in the opposite sex’s bathroom and in the back of a yoga class.

There is an underlying argument in all the memes. Why is being smart or having technological interests associated with being a creep.      In the first meme, the person could be creepy because he went engineering school.  Sméagol was educated but could be the ultimate creep.   If I dress like the people in the third meme, I would be labeled as a nerd.    This is a very subjective subject but I wish intelligence shouldn’t be a trait as a creep.   Sometimes it can be fair but most it can’t.  Meme sometimes can be a good way to give insight arguments if your time is limited to 20 seconds.
